Kraffter Machine Tools® offers a variety of high-precision, major brand grinding and sharpening machines (universal tool grinder or tool sharpener) with a very good price / quality ratio in worldwide. Our used grinding and sharpening machines for professionals are overhauled before sale and can be inspected at any time at our premises.
Grinding or sharpening in precision mechanics refers to the action by which an operator uses a machine tool, more precisely a CNC or conventional grinding machine, to remove a small amount of material from a mechanical part or cutting tool. This process allows for the dimensional adjustment of the geometric tolerances of a part, whether flat or cylindrical, while improving its surface finish.
However, care must be taken not to confuse the grinding process with traditional machining, which is characterized by the material removal.
Metal grinding and sharpening machines are equipped with grinding wheels. It is the friction between the grinding wheel and the workpiece that allows abrasive machining (otherwise known as grinding). In many cases, a high dimensional accuracy can be achieved. These second hand high-precision machines therefore allow for high-tolerance adjustments to be made while maintaining increased repeatability. The grinding process is now the most efficient way to achieve accuracy in the order of a few micrometers (microns), while respecting the profiles and angles of cuts.
This type of machine tool is generally used to prepare surfaces that will be exposed to some friction.
If the grinding wheel is previously diamond-coated, i.e., it has been machined into a particular shape, it will give a particular profile to the mechanical part.
What are the differences between a sharpening machine and a grinding machine ?
Sharpening machines for professionals
A CNC sharpening machine or conventional sharpening machine (universal tool grinder or tool sharpener) allows to sharpen blades and cutting tools made of carbide or polycrystalline. These cutting tools are mainly used in industrial mechanics companies during the production of parts thanks to their machine parks. The numerically controlled sharpening machine (CN or CNC) allows the sharpening of parts such as drills, carbide inserts, milling cutters, saw blades, spindles, ...
Grinding machines
Industrial grinding machines are used for all other types of mechanical parts, whether they are flat or cylindrical. They allow to approach a surface of a perfect shape.
In which sectors are grinding machines used ?
Used second hand grinding machines for metal working and precision machining are used in various sectors :
- Automotive
- Medical
- Aeronautics
- Nuclear industry
- General precision mechanics
- Watchmaking
- Space
- Plastics industry...
What materials can be ground ?
The advantage of machining by abrasion or grinding allows the machining of parts and cutting tools in very hard materials such as
- Conventional unhardened steel
- Hardened steel up to 70 HRC
- Hard chrome steel
- Ceramic
- Carbide
- Aluminum ...
What are the advantages of grinding ?
- Allows to be less precise on the traditional machining done beforehand (production of the part with machining centers, milling turning centers, CNC lathes, numerical lathes by learning, sliding headstock lathes, or CNC milling machines, ...)
- Achieve dimensional tolerances in the micron range, that is to say 0.001 mm, by removing very small passes.
- Produce a part with a perfect surface finish.
- Grind and sharpen the hardest materials.
What are the types of cnc and conventional grinding machines ?
- CNC cylindrical grinding machines or conventional cylindrical grinding machines (cylindrical grinder)
- CNC surface grinding machines or conventional surface grinding machines
- CNC or conventional centerless grinders
- CNC or conventional center grinders
- CNC or conventional thread grinding machines
- CNC or conventional internal grinder machines
- CNC Jig grinding machines or conventional Jig grinding machines
What are the main brands of grinding and sharpening machines ?
The different manufacturers and brands of sharpening machines
Traditional or CNC grinding machines are mainly produced by AGATHON, ANCA, CINCINNATI, EWAG, DECKEL, ISOG, SCHNEEBERGER, SAAKE, TACCHELLA, TRUMPF, UTMA, WALTER.
The various manufacturers and major brands of high precision grinding machines
Concerning the manual or NC grinding machines, the main manufacturers are :
BLOHM, ELB, FAVRETTO, FENIX, GER, HAUSER, HERMINGHAUSEN, JONES & SHIPMAN, JUNG, KARSTENS, KELLENBERGER, LIP, MAGERLE, OKAMOTO, OKUMA, OMICRON, SCHAUDT, STUDER, TSCHUDIN, VOUMARD, ZIERSCH & BALTRUSCH.
How to choose a used grinding machine ?
There are a few precautions to take when choosing a grinding machine. You must not neglect certain important checks on the machine, here are the basics:
- Traditional machine or CNC (Computer Numerical Control)
- General condition of the machine
- Cleanliness
- Technical constraints according to its market (grinding wheel diameter, power of the grinding wheel in kW, longitudinal stroke, size of the table, diameter of passage, maximum weight of the part...)
- Number of axes: 3 to 6 axes
- Type of NC
- Its dimensions in relation to the space we have
- Quality / price ratio
